Inhalt

Like the Netherlands with which it has so many affinities in scenery and architecture, East Anglia provides a wealth of subjects for the landscape artist. Many of the great British painters of the 18th and early 19th centuries – Suffolk's Gainsborough and Constable, Norfolk's Crome and Cotman – took their early inspiration from the Dutch School of Cuyp, Ruisdael and Hobbema but found their subjects in their own East Anglian countryside.
Frederich Bloemendal is a latter-day Dutch landscape artist who paints his subjects with his camera lens, imparting to his photographs that same appeal in composition an tone which distinguished the work of his eminent countrymen centuries ago. His first collection of East Anglian photographs, England in Cameracolour: East Anglia, was published in 1981 and has received wide acclaim and run to many reprints.
This collection, largely taken during 1986, is wider in its scope but looks rather more specifically at the heritage of stately and traditional buildings that make up an important part of the East Anglian scene, and adds so much to its interest and colour.
